Viking Longship Brooch and Pin
Longships have a long history in Scandinavia, with their existence dating back to the fourth century BC, being widespread used by the Vikings for commerce, exploration, and warfare.
Mightiest of all the Longships stood the Drakar, meaning dragon in old Norse. It was named for the carvings of dragon heads at either end, but what made the ship a favorite was its size: it had upwards to thirty rowing benches, with two rowers per bench, with the largest ones being able to carry more than 100 warriors. The large capacity both for men and for cargo, made the elegant and ornately decorated ships the Viking’s favorite for raiding and plundering, an icon into itself.
The cloak clasp, also known as a fibula is made of solid Zinc Alloy, which results in a piece of very high quality jewelry. Unlike other metal jewelry this is free from lead, cadmium and nickel.
